4 posts · Joined 2008. #1 · Apr 9, 2008. Just bought myself a focus 2001 1.6 zetec. Run fine at first but seems to have developed some sort of misfire. Say your doing about 30-40mph in 4th, I put my foot down and it seems to stutter or misfire. I will do it in other gears at low speed also, but once the speed has been built up, it goes fine.

Yup, its a safety issue. If you notice, all continental cars have this feature right up to Merc and BMW. First thing I'd do is run some transmission fluid through the engine to clean it up. Add 1 quart to the oil and drive the car for a day. Change the oil and filter. Use the cheapest oil you can find. Add another quart of transmission fluid. Drive for another day. Change it all again but use good QMy3t.
